2007 BMW X5

BMW has taken the liberty of releasing a new 2007 X5. It has improved it's good looks from the previous model and has a host of great new features and technology.

The engines boast more power, and use less fuel thanks to lighter materials, smarter technology and seven years of diligence.

The new inline six cylinder engine generates 260 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque, while the eight cylinder, 4.8-liter engine offers 350 hp and 350 lb-ft torque. The six cylinder was previously rather underpowered, so the new engine is going to make it a swift performer.

For the first time, the all new X5 offers the convenience of a third row seat, which is really a must in the USA in this day and age. The interior offers more cargo space than the previous generation and a wealth of premium features. Enjoy ventilated leather seats with 20-way adjustments and 10 interior fans to keep you cool and comfortable. Cup holders large enough for any appetite. (BMW has not been very good at cup holders up to date)

BMW has even added the option of a rearview camera to make backing up extra safe.

This vehicle is going to sell very well. I am wondering what the new version of the hi-po 4.8is will be? Maybe they will shoehorn the Alpina supercharged V8 into it at 500hp for humor?

I find my self sitting wondering just how this urban tractor would perform off-road. It's stunning to look at as 99% of most bmw's (on this i mean the x3)i would most certainly find great ambition to see the suggested V8 500bhp version hit the streets thou

They are very good off road with the X drive 4wd system. Both the X3 and X5 have this system. I would suggest getting rid of the 19 inch wheels before mud racing though.

Yep - she's a good looking SUV. However, I think that a hi-performance version should also be complemented with a "clean/green" version - a hybrid or biofuel version. In this day and age, BMW should be at the cutting edge of both performance AND environmental considerations.

I'd go for biofuel. I still have my serious doubts regarding the longevity and durability of batteries and related motors. Batteries are still disposable items, made with toxic substances. If the price of a Prius' battery (when it fails) can cost almost half of its second-hand value, it still isn't feasible for the average consumer who cannot write it off taxes. What's the point in having any vehicle with a fully galvanised body that can last 20 years, if its future owners can't afford to keep it on the road? I look forward to hydrogen, though that would be a few years away.

BMW are the one of the leaders in Hydrodgen technology. The diesel engines the build are magnificent and the fact that ethanol is not sold in most parts of the world make it rather expensive too tool up. I'd predict that they will work on diesels and skip the E85 craze and go right to hydrodgen... But time will tell.

This X5 is vary good looking SUV (as was the previous model) though I think realistically very few will get off road use.

Would definitely go for the diesel-and try to get it off road ;)

As alluded to by mike the real question is when they are going to do something about the pig ugly X3. I think in NZ you still have to have the black plastic bumpers (its not 1991 anymore)though I understand colour keyed ones are available in the US.

The color keyed bumpers were added for the 06 model year. The 07 gets more updated engines. The X3 is a great machine, it has the same running gear as the x5 bar the v8 and has basically the same interior space but with a thinner stance..... I do agree though Scotty....The new X5 is a very attractive vehicle even more so than the previous X5...
