This is a cool retro wagon. The original FJ land Cruiser was discontinued in 1983, and has been popular with collectors, safarists, farmers and Riaz Khan ever since.
The modern FJ Cruiser retains design and styling cues from the original FJ40, such as the round front headlights, exterior rear tire carrier, upright windshield and white roof cap. The original "Toyota" badging on the front grille appears as it did when Toyota first entered the market in the late 60's, and the first colors are expected to include yellow, tan and light blue, as they did in the original.
Many a Kiwi will remember the original Landcruiser in conjunction with Footrot flats, Berry Crump and 4 wheel driving...... I am predicting that the new FJ40 will be a massive hit. I hope it is made in right hand drive and not produced for the US market only.

It will sell by the thousands...... Retro seems to be hot at the moment.. Would be good if they built a retro 59 Cadillac too.
Hmm. Put that in camoflage and I think you have the Japanese Army's equivalent of the Humvee.
Having learned to drive in a LC (we still have the '71 and '73 at home that we've had since high school), I like the retro touches, but if it doesn't have the soul of the real thing, no thanks. By that I mean if it isn't durable or functionally bulletproof (owing to computers, and "all the usual refinements" these days)then I can only rate it like the retro Beetle. Right now, the only really rugged 4WD that has kept much of its soul is the Jeep Wrangler (we also had a CJ5 once).
If you do your oil changes regularly and use good quality oil, your engine will be in a top shape longer. There is a number of components that also need regular fluid changes or service: front and rear differential, transfer case, transmission, drive shafts, etc.
